The MA-1 flight jacket was first developed in the mid-1950s as the cutting edge field-performance-wear for the new jet age. At the time of this innovation, nylon replaced leather as the main flight jacket material to better suit the mobility needs of high-flying jet pilots. This jacket was as futuristic at the dawn of the jet age as a spacesuit is today.

We took that wonder and confidence as our inspiration as we developed our Suede MA-1 collection. The side-entry flap pockets and arm pocket speak to the functionalism that is so often at the heart of our most inspiring styles. The super-soft suede, meanwhile, adds that touch of refinement that elevates any outfit, from heavily whiskered jeans to our high-waisted Taylor trousers.

This Ghost Suede makeup takes the twist on the classic even further, evoking American monochrome streetwear and prewar moviestar elegance all at the same time.

The MA-1 shape accommodate a range of physiques and sleeve lengths. In general, we recommend ordering your typical Epaulet chest size.

If you own Epaulet New York shirting, then the sizing approximately works as such: Small = 46, Medium = 48, Large = 50, XLarge = 52, XXL = 54

All measurements are shown in inches. "Chest" is measured from one armpit seam to the other. "Sleeves" is measured from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff. "Shoulder" is measured from one shoulder seam to the other. "Length" is measured from the base of the rear collar to the bottom of the garment.

Our MA-1 is made in Portugal by a factory carrying on a centuries-old leatherwork tradition. The shell is 100% full grain snuff suede, while the liner is a gorgeously check-patterned polyester. The elasticized waist cinch can be worn open or closed, for a classic or modern look. Side-access pockets on the front can store a phone and keys comfortably, while interior breast pockets are perfect for a wallet.

My younger looks were defined by British street culture of the late 70s, from punk to ska and everything in-between. Nothing has bridged all those various styles more than the MA-1. This suede version marries a passionate hardscrabble tradition with the luxury and refinement you've come to expect from Epaulet.
