A minimal motorcycle jacket has an esteemed place in every man's wardrobe. It's a timeless, masculine style that faithfully serves year after year and grows more character with age. Named for Peter Fonda's character in Easy Rider, the "Wyatt" is our interpretation of this classic shape.
The concept was to make a motorcycle jacket that retains the traditional details of this shape without looking too technical. While you can ride with this jacket, you don't have to. And while you can wear it with jeans and boots, it looks equally boss with flannel trousers, cordovan shoes, and a knit tie. We make the jacket in the United States, use the best quality trimmings, and let the gorgeous leather do most of the talking. Speaking of which...
Horween Horsehide Leather
This particular jacket is crafted in absolutely gorgeous genuine horsehide from the Horween Tannery in Chicago, IL. As the world's premier source for Shell Cordovan, Horween is arguably the finest horsehide tannery in the world. Back in the 40's and 50's, horsehide was a common leather for motorcycle wear, as it offered significantly more strength, abrasion resistance, and water resistance than cowhide. The high degree of oils trapped inside also made the jacket easy to maintain - with little care and conditioning required. Horsehide ages differently than cowhide and calfskin, and shows a rich, complex patina with age. After a few years of wear, nothing can compare to its unique look.
These days, true horsehide jackets are a rare thing. And Horween horsehide jackets even rarer still. Your typical horsehide jacket will be extremely thick and stiff. For this piece, we had the leather skived to a more comfortable medium weight. The result is a jacket that keeps the comfort and proper "drape" of a calfskin piece (many horsehide jackets fit awkwardly in the beginning due to their stiffness) whilst maintaining all of the excellent properties of horsehide. This piece will age and show a patina like none other. Please check in with us in twenty years to tell us how it's coming along!
Please note: this horsehide is not corrected in any way, so you will see the natural grain of the skin. It's common to find small scratches or color variations upon close inspection. Certain pieces of the jacket may show a stronger grain than other pieces. This is part of the leather's character, and the jacket will look more uniform with wear and break-in.
The Wyatt has a snap-over tab collar and a two-way zippered front. All of the hardware is antique Italian brass. The chest has two zippered besom pockets and two slash handwarmer pockets. The gusseted cuffs zip to a trim fit at the wrist. The "bi-swing" back allows you to wear the jacket slim but still retain full range of motion for your arms. The interior is fully lined with forest green tartan cotton in the body and smooth acetate in the sleeves, and has a single pocket on the inside.
This handsome piece is sure to be one of the most worn items in your wardrobe. The fit on this jacket is razor sharp and generally consistent with our in-house shirting and typical fit. It hangs on the body as a slim, but not skinny garment.
Model (6'2", 165lb) wears size Medium. This garment fits true to size.
