The endurance of the varsity style is a testament to its place in the American cultural consciousness. Its basic elements are a classic combination of materials in an immediately identifiable shape. This is the foundation of the Epaulet Thorpe Jacket. From there, we updated the style with a modern, slim fit, utilized superior materials and stripped the shape of all adornments, highlighting its basic beauty. Of course it's also made entirely in the United States.
Classic features of the Thorpe include: banded wrists and waistband, leather piped double-besom front pockets and a single interior chest pocket. We deviated a bit from tradition by giving the Thorpe a fold-over shawl collar, horn buttons as opposed to snaps, a leather interior sleeve edge to decrease wear, and a handsome blackwatch liner.
The body of the Thorpe is 22oz melton wool with a soft brushed finish and dense weave―giving you ample protection against the wind and cold. True Melton wool like this is descended from military uniform fabrics and carries the same toughness and durability of its forebears. The sleeves are full-grain cream-colored Italian calfskin―heavy enough to insulate and protect your arms, yet soft and pliable enough to always be comfortable. Both materials will sustain a high degree of wear and gain exceptional character over the course of their long lifetime.
The fit on this jacket is razor sharp and generally consistent with our in-house shirting and typical fit. It hangs on the body as a slim, but not skinny garment.
Model (6'2",165lb) wears size M. This garment fits true to size.
Measurements & Sizing
Note: All measurements are shown in inches. "Chest" is measured from one armpit seam to the other. "Sleeves" is measured from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff. "Shoulder" is measured from one shoulder seam to the other. "Length" is measured from the base of the rear collar to the bottom of the garment.
Sizing on the Thorpe is true to size and generally consistent with our in-house Epaulet shirts and our Southwick for Michael Kuhle Sportcoats.
If you own an Epaulet shirt, then we suggest ordering the same size in the Thorpe. If the shirt fits you very slim, then you might consider sizing up one if you intend to layer a sweater underneath.
