Crafted in Portugal, the Burnham is our classic 5-eye laceup Derby. This particular makeup matches gorgeous cognac Italian Saffiano leather to a rugged British Dainite sole. The flat welt is finished with a dark brown trim and aged brass eyelets surround the laces. With the exceptional water-resistance of the upper leather and the rubber sole unit, this is excellent style to wear in inclement weather.
Sizing & Fit
The Burnham sits on our "Porto" last, which has an subtly rounded toe, a comfortable forefoot, and a supportive instep. It's a true medium width. We recommend ordering your typical dress shoe size. For comparison, we recommend ordering the same the size you wear in Epaulet Trainers, and ordering one half size up from your Alden Barrie or Tru-Balance size.
Our Saffiano leather beings its journey as full-grain calfskin at a tannery in Northern Italy. The leather is laid out and hot-pressed with a metal dye to yield the signature cross-hatch pattern. From there, a multi-layer and permanent hard wax coating is applied on top.
The resulting leather is remarkable. Given the quality of the original skin, it's soft, pliable, and light. Its textured finish and wax coating give it remarkable water, stain, and scratch resistance. Water simply beads up and rolls off the surface. Dirt and other unpleasantness wipes off with a moist cloth. And the cross-hatch structure masks any small surface scratches from normal use.
Goodyear Welt Construction
The Burnham is made with genuine goodyear welt construction at our exclusive Portuguese factory. This skilled firm has been family owned and operated for over 70 years, and they do some of the finest and most intricate work that we have seen anywhere. The leather mid-sole is fully stitched through, with the durable Dainite studded sole affixed onto the bottom.
