Developed by John Mercer in the 19th Century, Mercerized cotton is treated with a sodium hydroxide bath to increase the yarn's strength, lustre, and affinity to dye.

This particular shirt is made with a very lightweight pima cotton yarn. Through mercerization, the fabric is given exceptional strength for its weight and a subtle, elegant sheen. It's breathable, comfortable, and a great option for a dress or casual black woven.

Epaulet by Gitman Bros. is an exclusive capsule collection of shirts made by Pennsylvania's Gitman Brothers Company. Crafted with gorgeous fabrics and meticulous tailoring, these pieces are all cut with our signature in-house slim fit.

All measurements are shown in inches. "Chest" is measured from one seam at the armpit to the other. "Shoulder" is measured from one shoulder seam to the other. "Sleeve" is measured from the shoulder seam to the cuff. "Length" is measured from the base of the collar (where it attaches to the shirt) to the bottom of the tail.

The button-down collar maintains a perfect "American roll." Genuine mother of pearl buttons run throughout the shirt and it features a traditional left chest pocket, stitched placket, and single button cuffs.. Its slim cut flatters the body without being too tight and its mid-length tail looks good tucked or un-tucked.

Fabric Composition
100% Pima Cotton. Also known as “extra-long staple cotton,” Pima is one of the finest shirting fabrics available. Its high thread count yields a garment which is both dramatically softer and stronger than the typical woven shirt. Not only does it feel great and fit properly, but it will keep its shape and vibrance through repeated washing and wearing.

Gitman Bros.
Since 1948 Gitman has consistently made one of the finest shirts in the world. Located in Ashland, Pennsylvania, Gitman is also one of the last remaining shirt makers that bases its manufacturing entirely in America. Everyone they work with has been sewing clothing for generations and brings all their history and skill to each individual shirt they sew. Their experience is irreplaceable and we are dedicated to keep our manufacturing here to utilize and save something that is truly part of American history. With so many market goods now made offshore, the "Made in USA" label has not only come to represent a superior product made locally, but also to connote a new form of Internationally recognized quality. At Gitman, their identity is based on the fact that they produce a garment founded on quality in materials and construction - a particular combination of the worlds finest fabrics and master shirt making.

Wear it with jeans and a suede jacket for an evening of casual glamour, or don it open-cuffed with your best medium grey suit and tap a vein of ineffable elegance. Not to mention we've felt few other light-as-silk fabrics as sturdy as this one.
